Nowa Huta – what is worth seeing?

Visiting Cracow is definitely an activity for more than one day. 

This city has so many places worth visiting and monuments that you can easily spend a vacation in it. What is worth seeing? Among others, Nowa Huta. 

Nowa Huta

The city of Nowa Huta is located in the northeastern region of Krakow. It was built as a metallurgical complex for workers and has since become an industrial center. There are also green spaces in this area. In the 1950s Nowa Huta, which was a separate city, was incorporated into Krakow and became one of the districts. 

Tours of Nowa Huta

Nowa Huta is a district that is definitely worth visiting. Interestingly, you can do it not only on your own but also with a guide. Various interesting tours are organized, for example those modeled on the communist era, where you can see the district driving a Trabant. Communist tour Krakow trabant is very popular in this city.

Central Square 

The Central Square in Nowa Huta is the perfect place to start exploring what remains one of the largest districts of Krakow today. Standing in this heart of the city, it’s easy to see that everything has been carefully thought out and still serves the residents today.

Wanda’s Mound

Although Nowa Huta was founded in the 20th century, settlements in this location existed much, much earlier! The Wanda Mound is a small monument commemorating the daughter of Krak, the city’s founder, who, according to legend, committed suicide to prevent the German landowners from taking control of Poland. It’s worth seeing if you have the time! Polish painter Jan Matejko designed this monument.

Avenue of Roses

You can also take a walk along the Avenue of Roses. The Avenue of Roses was the place where all demonstrations and parades in Nowa Huta were to take place. The wide path had clusters of roses planted on its side, which gave it its charm. It is one of the most representative part of communist era. The site is very popular among tourists. Very few of locals appreciate it’s nature due to the bad feelings about previous political system.
